ABOUT JEANS

BOOK ON JEANS

JEANS
A clothing item that has become quintessential in every wardrobe today. There will hardly be any person in this world, whose cupboard does not have atleast one pair of blue jeans. One of the most comfortable and most stylish attire of today, it is liked by one and all, irrespective of the age, size, sex, economic background, and so on. The name ‘jeans’ was kept after sailors from Genoa (Italy), who wore clothes from a material quite similar to the one used today for making jeans. In case you are looking for some more interesting background information on jeans, just browse through the following lines.

POPULARITY
The popularity of jeans increased with the release of the western movies made in Hollywood, in the 1930s. With the cowboys, the ‘jeans’ worn by them also became popular. However, it was the American soldiers who introduced jeans to the rest of the world, during World War II. After the war, Levi jeans started selling outside American West too. Jeans started becoming popular amongst the teenagers in the 1950s, while the 1960s brought the different styles in jeans - embroidered, painted, psychedelic, and so on. Today, jean has become not only popular, but also a common clothing item, throughout the world.
JEANS VENDING MACHINE
Have you ever found yourself somewhere just thinking, damn I could use a new pair of jeans? Good news, a denim vending machine might just make these desires come true.Closed, a jeans brand that provides designer styles based in Hamburg, has launched a denim vending prototype machine in Florence, Italy to see how people embrace jeans-on-the-go. If the concept seems to take off, the idea is that it will be setup in train stations, bus stations and airports around Europe so those jet-lagged and unclean can find themselves in a new and clean pair of jeans.

Guitar

The guitar is a popular string instrument. It produces sound when the strings along the surface are plucked. It used to be looked upon as a proverbial instrument connected with chivalrous courtship. String instruments existed prior to the guitar. The first documented record on the guitar is in the 14th century chronicles. In its initial form, it had three double courses of strings and sometimes a single string. The guitar probably originated in Spain, around the 16th century. It was a social requirement for entertainment among the middle and lower classes.
The 16th and 17th centuries saw the guitar become popular in other European countries. By the late 17th century, a fifth string was added on, below the other four. The guitar attained its modern look by the mid-18th century. This happened when the double courses were made single and a sixth string was added, above the lower five. Guitar makers in the 19th century broadened the body, increased the bow of the waist, flattened the belly and changed the internal holders. The modern machine head replaced the old wooden tuning pegs.
Adolph Rickenbacker invented the electric guitar in 1930. The guitar can be traced to the Greek "kithara", but there is no similarity in the structure or sound of the two instruments. The sound of the electric guitar strings is both amplified and manipulated electronically by the performer. The American musician and inventor developed prototypes for the solid-bodied electric guitar.

Tips for Wearing Perfume
When you apply perfumes apply them to pulse points such as the folds in the crook of your elbow and back of knees, wrist, neck and cleavage. Make sure you do not rub wrists together as this crushes the smell. Spraying a little into the air is also good if you walk straight into the perfume. This helps to diffuse it over your body. Do not simply apply to the neck always work up the body as the scent rises. Also consider wearing in your bra a small ball of perfume impregnated cotton wool.
Consider layering perfumes. Use all the same perfume in various products. Begin with shower or bath gel and then rub in body lotion or spray with a matching after bath spray. Finally apply the scent preferably as perfume or EDP. I find that the use of body lotion makes you feel really scented and it is probably to do with starting at the feet and applying the scent all over allowing the scent to rise. It also makes you feel extra special and very pampered.
Keep bottles tightly stopped, away from direct heat and out of sunlight. You will certainly know when they have gone off as you'll notice that you do not get that lovely boost of heavenly scent when you spray or dab and the fragrance will look darker in the bottle. Some perfumes come in blue or opaque bottles and these store perfume well.
Try to choose perfumes that suit you, not your friends or family. Test a perfume in a store and then walk around for a minimum of ten minutes. Some perfumes take more like half an hour or an hour to truly develop. For example, Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood, Jicky by Guerlain and Must de Cartier are all ones I love after an hour, but am not convinced on first sniff.
Put a few drops of perfume onto an oil burner to scent your bedroom. At Christmas use musky oriental room fragrances in the form of perfumed incense sticks, candle or sprays to enhance the familiar associated yuletide seasonal smells of cinnamon, orange oil, pine, frankincense and myrrh.

Its All About Hat

HATS
You can trace the origins of the wearing of hats as far back as primitive man. Historical evidence has shown that some form of head covering was used for protection against the elements.
Throughout early Egyptian, Roman and Greek times, the hat was worn as a mark of rank.
It is believed that felt, the most common material used in hat making, was originally discovered by the nomadic tribes of Asia who were known to have used felted sheep's wool for making tents and clothing.
Throughout the centuries both men and women have sported various forms of headdress but it was only in the late 14th and 15 centuries that hats started to be worn. During that period hats for men played an important role in men's clothing and were considered an important fashion item, unlike women's hats which only became considered as a fashion item in the 18th Century.
As hats gradually grew in popularity during the 15th Century, an increasingly diverse range of materials were used for their production. Silk, velvet, taffeta, leather, felt and beaver were all favoured. During this period hat wearing differed between men and women. With women it tended to be restricted to the upper and middle classes as well as countrywomen, whereas with men it represented an essential accessory. During this period too, there was little difference in the hats worn by men and those worn by women. Many of the masculine styles tended to be sported by fashionable women and especially those belonging to the middle classes.
Men's hats also tended to make a symbolic statement. The most notable being the formal tall stiff top hat representing the authority of the bourgeoisie and aristocracy and those who were involved in the professions and trades and the informal soft trilby felt hats which symbolised democracy and revolution and were generally associated with intellectuals, artists and country life.
Most Popular Men's Styles over the Centuries
Capotain - Early 17th Century, originally came from Spain. It was a tall hat, with a medium brim and tapered crown. Made from felt. Most popular colour was black.
Sugar Loaf - Mid 17th Century - High Crown, stiff brim, it became associated with the dress worn by the Puritans.
The Tricorne Hat (Three cornered hat) - 18th Century.
Bicorne Hat - Late 18th Century - Most popular amongst artists and intellectuals.
Top Hat - Mid 19th Century
Coke Hat - Mid 19th Century - synonymous with bowler hat.
Panamas and soft hats - became popular head attire from the mid 1800s. With styles such as the pork pie in both felt and straw and the helmet in straw being introduced in the mid-late 1800s. After this period men's hats varied little. To this day top hats and bowler hats continue to be worn for formal dress, with felts and panamas being worn for everyday wear.
During the late Edwardian period hats became very much a status symbol encouraging many more society women to develop their skills as milliners. Hats continued to be popular until the 1960s, when they underwent a steady decline. Millinery today has benefited from somewhat of a revival and the return of hat wearing is gradually becoming more common.

A SHADY AFFAIR

You're dressed up for a night out, fully clad in trendy clothes. You pout the pout and walk the walk, but when you look at your reflection, your eye make-up makes you look as if you've got a black eye.
Eye make-up gone wrong can ruin your entire look, as it forms the core of any make-up. Veteran make-up arstist Bharat Godambe says,"Your eye area gives the largest scope for make-up, as you can create different looks and use different techniques to blend an array of colours."
It's true that a bit of kohl and mascara can do wonders for your eyes, but team it with a tint of shimmer or colour and see the difference for yourself. Eyeshadow comes in several formulations, each with a unique finish and level of difficulty. Matte eyeshadows blend easily and are perfect for beginners, as they can be both used for creating a soft daytime look or a heavy smokey eye. If you are not so much into eyeliners, you can opt for powder eyeshadows that can also be used as eyeliner, as long as the colour is densley pigmented. Used in tandem with a fine-tipped brush, it gives the softest, most natural look.

CONVERSE

They are more than just shoes, nostalgia, or a fashion statement. The history of Converse shoes spans the history of 20th century America and the evolution of basketball. Converse shoes revolutionized the sport of basketball and witnessed the birth of rock and roll. Sixty percent of all American own or have owned at least one pair of Converse sneakers. In 1908, Marquis M. Converse, in his late 30's and previously a respected manager at a footwear manufacturing firm, opened the Converse Rubber Shoe Company for business in Malden, Massachusetts and begins providing winterized rubber soled footwear for men, women, and children. By 1910 Converse Rubber Company was producing 4,000 pairs of shoes daily, but it wasn't until 1915 that the company began manufacturing athletic shoes for tennis. Basketball, less than 25 years old, was revolutionized in 1917 when Converse designed and produced the world's first performance basketball shoes, the Converse All Star.
In 1918, Charles H. "Chuck" Taylor, a basketball player for the Akron Firestones, acquires his first pair of All Star basketball shoes and backed by Converse, he introduces the game of basketball to Americans across the country; all while wearing his Converse All Stars.
Chuck Taylor officially joined Converse in 1921 as America's first player endorser, and in 1923 after publishing a retrospective on the first 60 years of basketball and teaching his first basketball clinic at North Carolina State University, his signature was added to the All Star patch. This decision marks the defining moment in the history of Converse shoes and gives birth to an American icon. Chuck Taylor, known as the "Ambassador of Basketball", then launched into a 35 year "evangelist tour" to introduce and teach basketball to America. Converse also customizes shoes for the New York Renaissance (the "Rens"), basketball's first all African American pro basketball team. The "Rens" pioneered a whole new method of playing and won a remarkable 2,588 games with only 539 losses.
Converse steamed ahead through the 1920's and 1930's as the nation's interest in basketball surges. Converse and basketball became synonymous as the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star became the standard issue basketball shoes for professional, college, and high school teams across the country. A few highlights include:

BAGS (CLUTCHED)

Pick from a plethora of ornamental clutches this season to accessorise a festive look. Hnadbag designers have loked everywhere for inspirations from oriental at Magala at to antique at Meera Mahadevia to jewelled purses at Dior. Take your look up a notch with clutch that fits your palm perfectly.

Skin and Sensibility

A flawless complexion is a bride's best ally before she walks down the aisle. Long hours spent shopping in the sun and late nights do leave tell-tale signs like dark circles and cracked heels, so you need a beauty regimen to keep your skin sane and sensational. Use products to help stabilise your current skin type. "For oily skin, a salicylic acid-based facewash followed by a clindamycin-containing lotion works best. A face pack of Fuller's earth soaked in rose water should be used thrice a week, and avoid facials or massages close to the wedding date as this could lead to stimulation of oil glands making the skin prone to breakouts.
